Governor Mike Beebe and Cathy Zoi, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy toured DGC’s 900 West Capitol project to view the ongoing renovation effort including the energy efficiency features. The building is set to house several state agencies including the Arkansas State Library and Arkansas Economic Development Commission and is on schedule for completion in early 2010. The energy efficiency innovations include a high efficiency heating and cooling system, specialized insulation, a “white” reflective roof, a rainwater collection system and low energy consumption elevators among other features. These features are partly funded by a $1.3 million federal stimulus grant and they will result in LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
